  1. This invention combines a keyboard's ability to play several notes at once with the expressive tone of a bowed string instrument. An endless horsehair bow rotates on a crank-powered belt drive. When the player pushes a button, a mechanism draws the strings against the rotating bow, producing music. Unlike a harpsichord, the viola-organista produces a sound that doesn't fade quickly.
